Our Music

Our musical tradition

The islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon have a very rich musical tradition and an impressive roster of local artists who play in local bars, restaurants and cabaret evenings.

One can enjoy the artistry of these musicians during such events as the Fête de la Musique, held each year on June 21st. This festival is a national institution where all can share their musical talents in a very open atmosphere.

In July, a festival called Les Déferlantes Atlantiques takes hold and features local artists, and musicians from France and Canada. This crossroads of cultural exchanges is quickly becoming the most popular musical event of the summer.

Below is the official website of the Déferlantes Atlantiques.

Les Déferlantes Atlantiques - Born in 2002, the Déferlantes Atlantiques are organised by various associations such as Arts’Chipel and the Cultural Center.  This festival picks up where previous festivals like the Franco-Marines and the Musicales Atlantiques of the association A Mare Labor left off.

Basque music is also celebrated during the festival of the same name in August. This ancient culture has its own tradition of choral singing and ethnically unique instruments.

For your enjoyment, here are some links to the websites of various local artists. You will be amazed by their various styles.
